a special time

Ollin  Ruby  Connie

Until their move to  High Point in the mid fifties, they had always lived in the eastern part of the state.
When they married and began raising their family, they lived in Erwin in a neighborhood  known by everyone as Wondertown.  Mamie was born and grew up on a farm in that area.  Talmadge was born in  the nearby town of Benson, and his family later moved to Erwin.  After they met, fell in love and were married, it was time to build a house on the farm and start a family.  They had five children...Ruby, Robert,
Tommy, Billy and Ruth Ann--better known as Baby Ruth her entire life especially by her brothers.  I have to say I like the name of the neighborhood where Billy was born because he was my wonder.

Ruby was the first to move to High Point with her husband Ollin also from" down home "as everyone who lived here called Dunn &  Erwin.  They were the parents of a beautiful little girl by the name of Connie who was eight years old when I started dating Billy.  Connie still has many stories about going "down home" and visiting her grandma and pa pa.  Billy and Ruth had many stories about picking cotton , working in the garden and sweeping the yard..  Tommy was next to move to High Point, and it wasn't long before his  Mama , Daddy, Billy and Ruth  made the move.  Their son Robert was born with cerebral palsy and only lived eighteen months.   A  tragic loss...he was always a part of their lives.   When I met this family and got to know them, I would first have to say....they were hard workers...they took care of each other....they cared about others....they were good people.

Now you know my family;  and you're getting to know Billy's family ,so is it any wonder the Good Lord brought us together.  We were married on December 22, 1958, and our story will continue................

Our wedding day with Pastor Tunstall
